Black Friday is one of the most anticipated dates in retail, for shoppers and sellers alike. For e-commerce businesses, it’s a golden opportunity to attract customers, boost sales, and strengthen the brand.

But to stand out in the middle of so much competition, offering discounts alone isn’t enough: you need to invest in a solid SEO strategy for Black Friday.

In this piece, you’ll learn how to do SEO for Black Friday with practical website optimization strategies that can put your business ahead of the competition in search results. Keep reading!

What Is SEO for Black Friday?

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the set of practices that helps your site rank better in Google’s search results. When applied to Black Friday, SEO becomes even more important, since millions of people search for products, prices, and deals during this period.

Investing in a Black Friday SEO strategy means optimizing your pages so they’re easier to find, attract qualified visitors, and increase your chances of converting them.

Why Invest in SEO for Black Friday?

Investing in SEO for Black Friday is essential for getting sustainable results that stay balanced alongside your other traffic and conversion channels. During Black Friday, people turn to search engines (Google, Bing, AI tools) to look for the best deals and promotions. Sites that apply SEO optimizations specifically geared toward the date tend to rank better in results, as pointed out in a Search Engine Journal article.

And the numbers back up the potential of this investment: First Page Sage ran a study showing that the average ROI of SEO for e-commerce grows over time, going from 0.8x at 6 months to 5.2x after 36 months, as content builds up and the site’s authority increases. That reinforces that SEO is an ongoing investment that delivers lasting, sustainable results.

On top of that, SEO strategies:

  • Improve the browsing experience, since optimized pages tend to be faster, more user-friendly, and more trustworthy.
  • Increase brand credibility, because showing up organically in search results builds trust.
  • Reduce dependence on paid ads, saving budget over the medium and long term.
  • Let you build a solid foundation for future campaigns, by making use of content, pages, and links that are already established.
  • Can improve the quality score of paid traffic campaigns when content, readability, and page speed are optimized.

How Do You Do SEO for Black Friday?

This process ranges from technical adjustments on your site to creating content that’s actually relevant for your pages. Here are some essential points to cover:

1. Plan ahead of time

There’s no point starting to optimize your site a week before the date. The ideal approach is to start preparing months in advance, so Google has time to crawl and index your pages. Here at Ecto, our team kicks off planning between July and September, so everything’s already live by October. We also recommend a schedule of content and page-structure updates that evolves alongside shifting purchase intent as Black Friday approaches.

It’s also essential to define a detailed timeline: when promotions start and end, which product or service categories will be included in the deals, and how each campaign will be promoted.

This planning prevents last-minute improvising, ensures clearer communication with your audience, and helps organize your SEO work — since it lets you align content improvements, page updates, and better keyword mapping with each phase of the campaign.

2. Create dedicated pages

A good SEO practice for e-commerce during Black Friday is creating a page — or a hub of pages — specifically for the date’s promotions. Important: always use the same main page for Black Friday every year, and keep it indexed as usual even after the date has passed. That way, the URL keeps gaining relevance over time.

To do this, remember: avoid putting the year or other time-limiting information in the promotion’s URL, like, for example: yourdomain.com/black-friday-2025.

Go for something timeless instead, like: yourdomain.com/black-friday, so the same page can be reused every year, building up history and authority.

Beyond the main page, depending on your niche, it can be worth creating supporting pages listing discounted products and additional details about the promotions. For a beauty e-commerce site, for example, in addition to the main /black-friday page, it might make sense to also have a structure like: /black-friday/fragrances, /black-friday/makeup, and so on — featuring the discounted products and text relevant to each URL’s theme.

Once you’ve created these pages, don’t forget to link to them from within your site. Here are a few tips for that:

  • Use the footer as an ally, since, like the header, it appears on every page of your site. Include links to the main Black Friday page (and any supporting pages, if applicable) alongside the other links in that section. This helps pass more relevance to the page, since it’ll receive internal links from every page on the site — and it’s usually a simple change to implement.
  • Add links in the menu, ideally giving them more visibility starting in early November — if promotions only run during the last part of the month — or from October, if Black Friday runs through all of November. For example, you could create a more prominent menu item listing the main promotions, with links to Black Friday–related subpages.
  • Add promotional links on the homepage and other strategic pages too, to share relevance and boost the promotion’s visibility. One way to automate this is to create a module that lists the top deals or categories with the biggest discounts.

3. Target strategic keywords

Include terms in your content that your audience actually searches for, like Black Friday deals, Black Friday discounts on [product], or [brand] Black Friday promotions.

Beyond your main keywords, it’s worth looking for extra terms that increase your chances of showing up in more searches. To do that, you can:

  • Use Google Suggest (the suggestions that appear in the search bar as you start typing “Black Friday…”).
  • Check Google’s “People also ask” section, which surfaces common questions from users.
  • Use SEO tools like SEMrush to find variations and long-tail terms, like best Black Friday deals on smartphones or how to shop Black Friday without falling for scams.
  • Look at what your competitors are using in their titles and descriptions.

These variations help make your content more complete and relevant, while also attracting different types of searchers. Don’t skip long-tail terms either, even if they have low search volume, since they work really well for conversational searches.

4. Invest in the user experience

Page load speed and intuitive navigation are deciding factors. During Black Friday, people have no patience for slow or confusing sites.

If a page takes too long to load, freezes, or makes checkout difficult, the chance of abandonment is huge — and the numbers prove it: 15% of people abandon their cart due to errors or site crashes, and 18% give up when checkout is long or complicated, according to data from a 2025 Baymard article.

Another essential factor is mobile browsing. Today, most traffic on dates like Black Friday comes from smartphones. That’s why it’s essential for your site to be responsive, fast, and easy to navigate on smaller screens, with buttons and menus that work well on mobile.

A design built for mobile doesn’t just improve usability — it’s also a ranking factor on Google, since the search engine prioritizes mobile-first indexing.

In short, a site that’s optimized for mobile, fast, and intuitive increases user satisfaction, improves your position in search results, and, of course, boosts conversions.

5. Produce supporting content

Beyond your sales pages, publish blog articles that help customers make better choices. Examples:

  • How to Use Black Friday to Upgrade Your Phone.
  • The Complete Guide to Electronics for Black Friday.

This kind of content expands your visibility, strengthens your site’s authority, and helps attract visitors at different stages of the buying journey.

But writing alone isn’t enough: the content also needs to be optimized for SEO. That means:

  1. Using keywords related to the topic naturally throughout the text.
  2. Writing compelling titles and meta descriptions with seasonal terms, like Black Friday deals.
  3. Adding internal links to product and promotion pages, making navigation easier.
  4. Producing scannable text, with subheadings, lists, tables, and visual callouts.
  5. Including optimized images (good resolution, lightweight file size, and alt text).

6. Keep constant monitoring in place

There’s no point investing in optimization if you don’t track the results. Constant monitoring is essential for understanding what’s working and what might need adjusting during Black Friday.

Tools like Google Search Console let you track performance in real time, showing data like:

  • Which keywords drive the most traffic.
  • Which pages perform best.
  • Where your traffic comes from (organic, paid, social media, etc.).
  • Your visitor conversion rate.

And if you want an even more complete view of your site’s health, you can also rely on Ecto’s own tools:

  • Free SEO analysis tool: lets you quickly check your site’s overall performance at no cost.
  • SEO Radar: continuous monitoring of critical elements (titles, descriptions, robots.txt, etc.), with automatic alerts whenever unexpected changes happen.
  • SEO Monitor: a system that checks page status to flag redirects, errors, or changes that could hurt performance, with real-time alerts.
  • Locasty: Ecto’s own platform for Local SEO at scale, ideal for businesses with multiple locations that need to manage regional presence, reputation, and local performance intelligently.

With these tools, you get not just real-time tracking, but also a strategic, preventive view of website optimization for Black Friday that you can apply year-round.

7. Wrap up promotions and communications the right way

As we mentioned earlier, planning is essential for success during Black Friday. On top of preparing for the lead-up — creating pages, producing content, and organizing promotions — and staying on top of things during the event — with constant monitoring and course corrections as needed — it’s just as important to pay attention to what comes after.

For that, we recommend keeping the pages you created active after the promotional period ends, but updating them with new content about how the promotion went and what to expect next year. You can also remove the links to these pages from your navigation menu (but they should remain accessible!).

For e-commerce sites, we recommend keeping the link to the main page active in the footer or the site’s HTML sitemap, just without much visibility. Then, between August and September of the following year, all you need to do is pick the strategy back up with the same pages and restart your internal linking.
